Nominees for the WDZ Ring of Honor

47 posts in this topic

I'm going to add a WDZ Ring of Honor to the site. Kind of like a hall of fame, but just on this site. This initial class will feature 15 inductees, but each year after that it will be 3-5 going in at a time. So please list those you'd like to see inducted in the first class for the Ring of Honor.

Just list any and all Saints you want. Once we've got a fair amount of players I'll set up a poll and we will all vote on it.

I am going to list here, but I am listing only those no longer playing. I think Rickey Jackson, Sam Mills, Archie Manning, Duece McAllister, Joe Horn, Willie Roaf, Dalton Hilliard, Mike McKenzie, Wayne Martin, Will Smith, Jonathan Vilma, George Rogers, Eric Martin, Wayne Martin, Sammy Knight, LaRoi Glover, Pat Swilling, Vaughn Johnson, Frank Warren, Michael Lewis, Tyrone Hughes, Morten Anderson, Hoby Brenner, and I'm sure more will come to me later. Just wanted to get the ball rolling.

Bonkers pretty much summed it up.

I'd add:

Tommy Myers

Tony Galbreath

Derland Moore

Billy Kilmer

Danny Abramowicz

Stan Brock

Jim Wilks

possibly..... Doug Atkins

At first glance I thought you meant a WDZ HoF.  I was going to nominate Face, Coach L, ATN, Rap.... and 15 seemed like an awful lot.  Then I read further.  =)

Honestly, that's what I thought at first too!

Sorry, I should have been a little clearer with what I was trying to do - definitely Saints players. They don't have to be retired for what that's worth.

Without a doubt the best LB core EVER, deserves their spot, we all know those 4.

Hard to argue with Xardoz's list, all are worthy, both sets. I'd second that first 15, without question and I'd second the next 15 for next.

Xardoz named them all. I definitely believe Doug Atkins deserves the honor. We didn't squeeze one good season out of his 37 year old body when we signed him in the 67 expansion draft. We got three great ones instead.

Danny Abramowicz and Tom Dempsey are two more deserving consideration

I was gonna say let's retire David's jersey forever now as the first inductee.

I still stand firmly behind Xardozs list.

David,

I know how you feel about Facebook and Social Media in general, but would it be OK if I share this "event" on my site and related Facebook & Google+ pages once you get the poll up? Could bring a little exposure to the Zone.

I played a MEAN ball boy a couple pf times when they used to practice on Saints drive when Hank Stram was coach. (Before the new facility was built. My aunt and uncle lived in the appt.'s RIGHT NEXT to the field. I would try to hang with the team. I got in a few times. Stram was cool! ahhhh...Memories...)

Does that count? :D

But, seriously, I think xardoz is on the right tract.

Jabari Greer was definitely one of our best corners ever and a reason we won a Super Bowl with Porter on the other side, and Sharper (despite his current horrible legal / personal problems).

I'll put up a list soon that will be a multiple choice poll and the top 15 vote getters will be the first class. :)

I looked over this list again and thought he probably forgot Stan Brock. He definitely belongs. I'll also mention Jake Kupp. He was the last active member of the original Saints team that started in 1967. He played until 1975.
