While I was down to see Corky and Mother Theresa,we were graciously offered a location by his son-in-law. The price is right-free, location is off of 190 in Opelousas not 5 minutes from I-49, so access is not a problem. Has a huge outdoor pavilion that we can put the grill under in case of inclement weather, has plenty of parking, restroom, a small kitchen that will be very handy, a back room that would be perfect for setting up a band, provided we are able to get one. The place has a lot of potential for being a permanent site for us to use on a regular basis, we can all pitch in and improve on it each year. I believe Mother Theresa can get pictures of the site and post it for your perusal. It's not the Taj Mahal, but we can make this a fun location for us.

We must collectively agree on a date so we can start plans in earnest to get this picnic rolling! Once we get a date set, I plan to spend at least a few days in advance of the party to set the place up.I need to know quickly so I can put in for the time as soon as possible. So 'Zoners, get off your asses and get the date pinned down!!!!!

hey can't blame me, I've been trying! HAH! Can't do it the weekend of the 15th as Chuck isnt home, maybe the weekend after?

Some one set a date! My boss (from NOLA) may come and another co-worker. Neither are WDZers but both damn big fans and cool dudes to boot. Settle on something. I need to put in notice.

I have a suggestion for future years. Pick an annual date like the first Saturday after April 15th or something like that. Then every year, those who can make it will go, and those who can't won't. There will always be someone who can't make it. Since everyone will know the date ahead of time, they can do their best to clear their calendars.

+1 :)

I would love to make one of these one day, but I live in Missouri, so it makes it kinda hard to plan a last minute trip down, if the date is set in stone every year I could plan a trip down there months in advance. I know this is kinda a group effort, but I don't want to mention date because there is no way I could make it every year, but with an annual date I could at least have something to plan for. :fdl:

Do we have a consensus on the 22nd being the official date? I would like to know that I can plan to be down there for the festivities. Sound off if you're in agreement on the date! Then, when we are down there partying our asses off, we can establish a permanent weekend for this event.

The 22nd of what month, May?

May 22nd is when the heat is rolling in pretty good. (It's been hot as hell already)
I know it sounds as if I am complaining about the heat a bit much. But, being sick it really knocks me down ALOT. Also, I have not been able to afford to get the A/C fixed in the van. So a long trip in the heat is unbearable.

Any official date for future picnics should be at the end of March or early April IMO.

If this year turns out to be a wash at the park, we could host a few of you for a little get together here.

I had asked Nancy if she would have a problem having a few of you over here and she said to put out feelers to see who would come.

I have a room for a few to stay the night if need be. (Queen bed and floor space for another four easily) (It is a "Saints room")
I have a pretty big house, not huge, but big enough to handle about 15 to 20 people or so.

I have a big yard and....(Wait for it....) AIR CONDITIONING!!!!

My house is right off of I-12 in Covington and very easy to get to. It's about 2 and a half hours from Lafayette, 3 and a half from Monroe and about 4 and a half hours from Shreveport.

We would love to have you here.
What do you think?

Or are you too good for my house? :snicker:

On a side note.
I do believe this will be my last year to attend something like this. My breathing is getting worse and worse and I really don't think I will be up to it next year. (I have said things like this in the past but this time I think it REALLY could be the case)

:tut: :tut: :tut:

And to think....Anyone who showed up at my house would have gotten a brand new 64 inch. LCD Samsung and possibly got to meet my wonderful mother-in-law.
